Meeting Tonight in Nipomo to Talk About Treatment for Light Brown Apple Moth

AM1440 and AM1410 News

A MEETING IS PLANNED TONIGHT IN NIPOMO TO TALK ABOUT THE MOST RECENT DISCOVERY OF THE LIGHT BROWN APPLE MOTH.. TWO ADULT MALE MOTHS WERE FOUND IN SEPTEMBER IN A CANYON OFF ZENON WAY IN NIPOMO PROMPTING A QUARENTINE OF A NINE SQUARE AREA WHERE GROWERS MUST UNDERGO REGULAR INSPECTIONS.. THE MOTH WAS ALSO FOUND IN LOS OSOS AND THE CONCERN IS THAT THE INSECT, WHICH IS NATIVE TO AUSTRALIA CAN DAMAGE CITRUS, GRAPES AND OTHER CROPS.. THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE HAS PROPOSED AN ERADICATION EFFORT THAT INVOLVES PLACING THOUSANDS OF TWIST TIES CONTAINING PHEROMONE IN SHRUBBERY AND THE SCENT PREVENTS THE MOTHS FROM FINDING FEMALES TO MATE WITH-- EVENTUALLY KILLING THEM OFF.. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE PROVIDED AT TONIGHT'S MEETING FROM 6 UNTIL 730PM AT THE NIPOMO COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT OFFICE AT 148 SOUTH WILSON STREET..
