Local Resident Proposes Closing Oceano Airport to Build Private Development—Meeting Scheduled Tonight

A LOCAL MAN IS PROPOSING CLOSING THE OCEANO AIRPORT AND REPLACING IT WITH A PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT WHICH HE PLANS TO DISCUSS AT A MEETING TODAY.. JEFF EDWARDS WHO IS A LAND PLANNER AND LOCAL DEVELOPER HAS INVITED AN AVIATION ATTORNEY, A GEOLOGIST, AND A CLIMATE CHANGE EXPERT AMONG OTHERS FOR THE MEETING AND HE SAYS THAT OCEANO LACKS A TOWN CENTER AND HE ENVISIONS COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT, SENIOR HOUSING AND OTHER AMENITIES TO SERVE TOURISTS.. BUT LOCAL PILOTS ARE CONCERNED SAYING THE AIRPORT PROVIDES SPACE FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES AND THEY SAY ITS AN IMPORTANT REFUELING STOP.. THE OCEANO AIRPORT WAS BUILT IN THE 1950'S AND HAS FIVE COMMERCIAL TENANTS, 14 STORED AIRCRAFT AND 30 SPACES FOR PILOTS TO TIE DOWN THEIR PLANES. THE COUNTY SAYS THEY HAVE NO PLANS TO CLOSE IT DOWN.. TODAY'S MEETING IS SCHEDULED AT 5PM AT THE RABOBANK IN GROVER BEACH AT 899 GRAND AVENUE.
