A FOLLOW UP ON A STORY WE TOLD YOU ABOUT EARLIER... THE CITY OF SANTA MARIA SAYS THEY NEVER ORDERED A TRAVELING CIRCUS IN SANTA MARIA TO SHUT DOWN. THE RAMOS BROTHERS CIRCUS OPENED LAST FRIDAY BUT THE CITY SAYS THERE WAS A MUTUAL AGREEMENT WITH THE APPLICANT TO HAVE THE CIRCUS LEAVE ITS TEMPORARY LOCATION AT NORTH BROADWAY AND ALVIN ON THE EXPIRATION OF THEIR FOUR-DAY ITINERANT SHOW PERMIT WHICH ENDED MONDAY. THE CITY SAYS A TEN-DAY PERMIT WAS NEVER ISSUED. OPERATORS OF THE CIRCUS AND CITY STAFF ARE DISCUSSING A SEPARATE PERMIT TO HOLD ADDITIONAL SHOWS AT A MORE SUITABLE LOCATION ON THE WEST SIDE OF TOWN AT MAIN STREET AND KATHLEEN COURT FROM THIS FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. THE CITY ENCOURAGES BUSINESSES TO APPLY FOR PERMITS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE BUT NO LATER THAN TEN DAYS PRIOR TO THE EVENT SO STAFF HAS SUFFICIENT TIME TO REVIEW AND MAKE SURE THERE IS ADEQUATE PARKING, LIGHTING, SECURITY AND SUFFICIENT EXITS FOR LARGE CROWDS OF PEOPLE.
