One Acre Vegetation Fire North of Buellton Started from Faulty Catalytic Converter

image

A failed catalytic converter from a passing vehicle is reported as the cause of a vegetation fire that burned about an acre along Highway 101 north of Buellton. It started around 3:40 pm along the northbound side at Highway 154 and was fanned by 15 mile per hour winds. Fire crews along with two bulldozers and a helicopter crew helped battle the flames and by 4:20 pm the fire was reported to be surrounded. The northbound lanes of Highway 101 were also closed until crews could get a handle on the fire. Just a few weeks ago, another failed catalytic converter from a passing vehicle caused a series of spot fires along Highway 101 in Goleta.
