Helicopter Flying Over San Luis Obispo Was Part of PG&E Operation

image

If you have been seeing helicopters flying over sections of San Luis Obispo in the past few days, there is an explanation. One was part of a PG&E operation to detect poor connections on its power lines. The helicopter was equipped with an infrared camera to measure areas of heat on the grid which can detect problems with the wiring. The company will continue to use the infrared sensors from helicopters periodically as a way to catch potential electrical problems before they occur, not only in San Luis Obispo but in other areas where distribution lines are located.
At around 6:00 pm Tuesday, a California Highway Patrol helicopter was helping San Luis Obispo Police look for a parolee who was on foot, however he was not located.
