Local Woman Claims Her Boyfriend was Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting Near Los Alamos
A local woman is speaking out after she says that her boyfriend was injured in an officer-involved shooting near Los Alamos.
18 year old Elisa Morales says it happened Saturday around 4:00 pm when she was driving in the Los Alamos area with her boyfriend, identified as 18 year old Michael Ledesma. Morales says they began arguing and Ledesma threatened to harm himself with a knife and even cut his finger. There was also a child in the vehicle.
Morales tells KCOY CBS 12 and the Information station that she called 911, "I said, he has a knife, and I have me and my daughter in the car, I don't know what else to do."
After a CHP Officer and Sheriff's Deputy pulled up behind them, Morales says Ledesma then got out of the vehicle with the knife. "Cop said drop your weapon. He didn't at first, he just stood there. Between the first shot whent he knife fell, there was a gap. Between the first shot and the next two shots and that's when he fell over."
After being airlifted to an area hospital, Morales reports that Ledesma was in serious condition. Morales wants to know why a taser or some other method wasn't used instead of shooting Ledesma.
The Sheriff's Department has not commented on the shooting, aside from saying it remains under investigation. This appears to be the first officer-involved shooting for the Santa Maria CHP in at least 15 years.
