An Atlas V rocket carrying a classified satellite for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base on Thursday.
The launch occurred at 2:39 pm Thursday and had been delayed from August 2nd due to launch range equipment problems. It is the fourth launch this year for the N.R.O. which operated the Nation's system of intelligence gathering satellites. The rocket was also carrying 11 tiny satellites known as "cubesats" which include projects from four universities conducting research ranging from space, weather and tracking maritime shipping containers.
