Candlelight Vigil Planned Monday for Cal Poly Student who Died on Sacramento River
A candlelight vigil for Brett Olson, the Cal Poly student who died on the Sacramento River in Northern California is scheduled for next week on campus. Olson was 20 years old when he took part in a Labor Day Weekend intertube float. He went missing for several days until a fisherman recovered his body last Sunday. Olson was a Theater major at Cal Poly and would have started his Junior year this month. Several people will speak at the vigil, including Josh Machamer, a professor in the Theater and Dance Department. A vigil was held this past Tuesday in Olson's hometown in Lafayette and also in Chico. Olson's family has been invited to the vigil at Cal Poly but it is not clear if they will attend. The vigil is taking place Monday at 7:00 pm in the University Union Plaza.
