Statement Issued by Board of Directors for Creston Classic Rodeo after Clown Makes Inappropriate Comment about First Lady Michelle Obama

Officials with the Creston Classic Rodeo in San Luis Obispo County have issued a statement following an inappropriate joke by a rodeo clown at this past weekend's event. That joke by Mike Hayhurst referred to First Lady Michelle Obama. Board Director Jeff Rigby tells KCOY CBS 12 and the Information Station that the joke did not involve rodeo announcer Ed Kutz.
In a statement, the Board of Directors apologized to "anyone offended by Hayhurst's inexcusable behavior on Saturday. He was an out of town independent contractor who was solely responsible for an inappropriate attempt at humor." Rigby also said that they "still believe in the cowboy way and part of that creed is to tip our hat and respect women." He said "Mike Hayhurst broke that rule." Hayhurst has since apologized for the joke but the Board has unanimously decided to sever all ties with Hayhurst and they say he will not be hired for future events.
