A high speed chase that started in San Luis Obispo County ends at the steps of the Santa Maria Police Department. It started just before 10:00 am on Wednesday when the driver of a white Chevy truck was seen entering southbound 101 on ramp at Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo at a high rate of speed. The driver made an unsafe lane change and a CHP officer tried to pull him over but the suspect continued driving on the 101 reportedly at speeds up to 90 miles per hour. The suspect eventually drove into Santa Maria before crashing the truck right in front of the Police Department building.
The suspect's father and brother identified him as 19 year old Daniel Lopez and said that he may have lost his memory leading to the pursuit. He was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail and will likely face felony evading charges. No injuries were reported.
