The Veterans Stand Down in Santa Barbara County is taking place on Saturday in Santa Maria. Fifth District Supervisor Steve Lavagnino and his staff spearheaded the effort to allow homeless veterans a place to take a shower, get a haircut, have a hot meal, talk to a counselor, get employment services and even seek legal advise from a lawyer. An army of volunteers have signed up to help out at the Stand Down and a number of supplies and clothing were donated by comunity members and local businesses. Santa Barbara County Animal Services is also providing supplies for pets of homeless veterans, including food. The Stand Down is taking place from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm on Saturday at the Fairpark in Santa Maria.
